Opening of Harry Watts Academy's New Harraton Site
Return to Latest NewsHarry Watts Academy opened their second site on 12th September 2022 in Harraton, Washington. Due to the increase in demand for ASD places in the Sunderland area Harry Watts Academy will now operate across two sites, the Redhouse site in Sunderland and the new Harraton site. The Harraton site was used as a temporary base for Harry Watts Academy while the new build at Redhouse was being completed. It has since undergone further renovations and now offers seven large classrooms, alongside a computer suite and a multi-purpose hall, with space across the site for future growth.
Catherine Bhatti, Assistant Headteacher of Harry Watts Academy, who is primarily located at the Harraton site, said “We are so thrilled about the opening of Harraton. We currently have 58 pupils based here at Harraton who are on the Discover Pathway of our curriculum, and the additional space here has allowed for Harry Watts Academy to grow and for our pupils to flourish.”
Derek Cogle, Headteacher of Harry Watts Academy, said “The opening of our Harraton site has been a great step forward for Harry Watts Academy. Within the two years since the opening of our academy, we have now become a multi-site school with 17 classrooms for our 139 pupils, with room to expand our roll in future. The Redhouse and Harraton sites together are now fully equipped to offer each pupil across our curriculum pathways the dedicated space and specialist facilities to meet their learning needs.”
