Speech and Language Support
What We Do
- We provide intervention for children/young people with communication and eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties.
- We work closely with school staff, parents/carers and other professionals.
- We provide training and support to parents/carers and school staff. With the aim for communication strategies to be embedded throughout school life and at home.
Universal Level Support (Level 1)
All students have access to Universal Level Support because they attend a specialist provision. Support includes:
- Contactable SALT team based within school
- Signposting to other services and resources
- Advice about general speech, language and communication strategies
- Resources for school environment
- Resources to use at home
- SALT Team Resources’ on the school website – please see ‘Parent Information’
- Parent workshops
- Staff training
- Meetings with Senior Leadership Team
- Initial observation assessment of all pupils to inform their bespoke support plan
- Identified Speech and Language needs are given bespoke targets which are reviewed regularly
- Advice & request support available - input into review meetings, progress reports, SALT initial or diagnostic assessments, transition support, meetings regarding new or specific concerns
- Social Skills group work
The Speech and Language Therapist at Harry Watts Academy is Alix Coady.
How to get help and support:
Referrals for support are not required, as all pupils are on our SALT register. However, additional support can be requested, with a meeting and plan put in place. Please speak to your child’s class teacher regarding concerns.
